Nov. 8th: The Thiel College women’s basketball team beat Hiram College 70-66 in home court.

In a thrilling overtime win, the Tomcats found their way to the top over Hiram College women’s basketball team. Hiram had found victories over the Thiel women’s basketball team for many years, winning by 30 or more points each time.

The Terriers started strong, leading the game 29-23 going into halftime, but the Cats got fired up in the locker room before the second half.

“The locker room at halftime was positive, we knew we had some things to clean up, but they were easily correctible. We knew that to win this game we had to have a strong third-quarter.” Senior Rachel Breckenridge said.

The Cats knew they needed a strong third quarter, and they gave one. They found a strong 13-point run that went unanswered to put themselves back into the competition, leading into the fourth quarter.

With only 3 minutes were left in the game, the Tomcats found themselves in overdrive to keep up with the Terriers. Senior Emily Harriman and Breckenridge found themselves in the center of the game, continuously responding to Hiram’s team scoring until Harriman hit a lay-up to send the game into overtime.

With only two minutes left in overtime, the Cats trailed 66-63, and there was worry as to what was going to come. “We were a bit worried because we would have to play the overtime with Destiny Johnson but were just so hungry for this win,” said Breckenridge.

Baskets from Breckenridge and Harriman, as well as free throws from sophomore Rebecca Litz and Freshman Lexy Wagner clutched the game with a seven-point run, ending with a final score of 70-66.
