On Tues February 19, International Marketing students had the opportunity to Skype with Dr. Bruce Money, Co Author of International Marketing.
Money who got his B.A. from BYU, M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, and Ph.D. in marketing from the University of California, Irvine has had a lot of career advice to give the students. He is a current professor at BYU and prior to this he served as a faculty member at the University of South Caroline.
Money has written and published in leading academic journals such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Business Studies, and Harvard Business Review. He gained ten years of professional and nonprofit experience in international marketing of financial services. With a lengthy list of achievements, he had a lot to share with the students.
During the Skype interview Money answered questions students sent to him before the call. He answered questions that ranged from his experience working in different countries to advice he would give to college students that are entering the international business world.
“…It’s important to stay up to date on international news,” Money stated.
He talked about the importance of understanding the culture in the area. He gave the example of Nabisco introducing Oreos over in China. He informed the students about how the Oreos that the United States is different then the ones they have in China.
Money mentioned and explained in detail the Euro Disney case study and the difficulties faced in Paris, France. There was a student in the class from France that provided information about the park in Paris.
Money stressed the concept of being in the know with international marketing and advised students to, “be the first to forward the article…”. He encouraged them to know what is going on in the world even if they don’t end up in international marketing.
With the gleam of Utah sunshine coming through his office window and the Skype call slowly coming to an end, he left the students with one piece of valuable advice and that was to be proactive in their careers and never stop learning.
