Thiel Tomcats beat Saint Vincent Bearcats, 15-9, in the Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) volleyball match in a home-game, Thursday, Oct. 5.
The match took all the possible sets to decide the winner. It was even, with both teams having fifty-one Errors, and SVC beating Thiel in the Kills by just a two.
The most valuable player was the six-foot one junior from Columbia Station, OH, Shelby Friedel. Friedel tallied a team high twenty-five Kills and zero blocks and Aces. The leader in Assists was freshman, Olivia Scott with an outstanding total of forty-nine assists. Finally, the leader in Digs was the senior from Freeport, PA, Megan Sweeny, who had a total of thirty-three digs in Thursdays match.
The first set was decided by just three points when the Bearcats took a 1-0 set lead 25-22. The next two sets Thiel had taken care of though, winning the second set 25-22 then, the Tomcats hopped out to a 11-3 lead in the third set.
The Bearcats caught up a tad bit but it wasn’t enough because Thiel sealed the deal at 25-11. The fourth set was another close one but SVC came out on top. So, with the match tied at 2-2, they were forced to play in the fifth and final set. The last set was a back and forth match but in the end Thiel came out on top.
While Thiel improved to an 8-12 record and a 2-7 record in the PAC (9th in PAC), the Bearcats slid below .500 to 10-11 and a 3-7 record in the PAC, (7th in PAC).
