February 6, 2021 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 31-9. The game was played in Tampa Bay, though the Buccaneers were considered the visiting team.
Tom Brady, widely regarded as the greatest football player of all-time, won his 7th Super Bowl. Brady ended the game 21-29 passing with 201 yards and 3 touchdowns. Leading the Bucs in rushing was running back Leonard Fournette with 89 rushing yards on 16 carries, with 1 touchdown. The Bucs were also led by former Patriot Rob Gronkowski who finished the game with 67 yards receiving on 6 catches and 2 touchdowns.
The Chiefs were led by last years Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes who finished the game 26-49 passing with 270 yards and 2 interceptions. Clyde Edwards-Helaire led the Chiefs in rushing with 64 yards on 9 carries. The Chiefs were led in receiving by Travis Kelce who had 133 yards receiving on 10 catches.
The Super Bowl was just the third time in Mahomes’ career in which the Chiefs did not score at least 20 points.
While Tom Brady has been the quarterback of the past and present, it is safe to say that Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback of the future.
