From the end of the fall semester to the beginning of our spring semester Thiel College’s winter sports have had their share of victories and defeats. Our three active winter sports are Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Wrestling.
Men’s Basketball
The Men’s Basketball team began their season on November 10th against Penn State Behrend. Thiel fell in that matchup and would proceed to lose the following six games. They broke their losing streak with a come-from-behind victory versus Allegheny, winning 80-79 and scoring 54 points in the second half. The team then played two more games before the break, losing both. Now returning for the Spring Semester the Men’s team has lost their first three matchups along with a postponed game versus Bethany College. Men’s Basketball is 1-11 overall and 0-6 in conference play. Thiel sits in 10th and last place in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Their next game is AT Franciscan on Monday, January 24th at 6:00 P.M.
Women’s Basketball
Women’s Basketball opened their season with an away loss at Muskingum University. The team bounced back beating Hiram 70-66 in overtime. They followed their win up for a total 3-7 record to end the fall semester. The Women’s team had their first two games of the Spring semester postponed and met up with Geneva on January 22nd for their first game. Thiel left Geneva victorious winning 82-79. Women’s Basketball is 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Thiel stands at 7th place in the middle of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Their next game is AT Washington and Jefferson on Monday, January 24th at 6:00 P.M.
Wrestling
The Wrestling team began their season placing 6th in the Washington and Jefferson College Invitational. They followed up that performance with a season-opening win by beating Hiram 38-6. The team would then play in two more invitationals to end the Fall semester, placing 4th and 6th in the two. Once Wrestling returned for the spring, they tore through the upcoming schedule winning all four matchups with a combined score of 165-36. The highlight of the four matchups was a 51-0 romping of Muskingum University. The Wrestling team is 5-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play. Thiel stands at 2nd place at the top of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, trailing only trail W&J by one match. Their next match is AT Washington and Jefferson on Monday, January 25th at 7:00 P.M.
