On Sunday, September 3rd, Thiel College’s Office of Student Activities bussed students up to Sandusky, Ohio to visit Cedar Point amusement park. Some of the students that went on this trip were the Thielensian staff members, Hannah Stoughton, Jacob Walsh, and Jason Walsh II. These three staff members were interviewed on their experience at the park.
Hannah Stoughton stated that “getting to hang out with my coworkers was probably my favorite part of the day. We’re pretty close and adding a new experience with them is nice.”
Hannah added, “I have to say my favorite ride was The Rougarou. It was the most exciting out of all of them.” She was then asked to rate Cedar Point from one to ten. “Cedar Point falls around a 7.5 for me. The rides were really fun, with a lot of options but stuff was expensive, and the lines had barely any shade with the sun beating down all day.” Lastly, the question ‘Kennywood or Cedar Point?’ was brought up. “Kennywood, it’s closer to me, it’s cheaper and I know the park better. You get more for your money.”
Jason was asked how he felt about the overall trip, stating “It was a great time, I had a lot of fun. The bus ride up and back wasn’t bad, and the park was really cool. I’m happy I got the chance to finally check out Cedar Point.” After going to an amusement park the question came up of what Jason’s favorite ride was, to which he replied with the Millennium Force. Jason said, “It’s really fast and has a lot of loops and bends. There’s a reason it was voted the best steel coaster in the world”. Jason then made his decision of what park was better between Kennywood and Cedar Point. “I like Kennywood better, the park is easier to navigate, and there’s less of a wait for their larger rides. The Steel Curtain is my favorite ride ever and it’s nice to be able to ride it more than once without having to wait an hour in line every time.”
The final Thielensian staff member who attended the trip is the author of this article, Jacob Walsh. The trip was a great experience for a college student. It was even better to get to enjoy it with coworkers. It’s great that the Student Activities Office gives these opportunities. The park was really fun, and the rides held up to the bar people set when describing them. The best ride was the Rougarou personally. It was less of a wait than other rides, and it was fast and exciting. The one complaint about Cedar Point is that a lot of the rides do not have a place to leave your bag. They make you rent a locker to store your belongings while on the ride. Personally, Kennywood is a preferred amusement park to Cedar Point because Kennywood’s rides are easier to ride more than once. Kennywood rides have less of a wait time and the bigger rides also compete with Cedar Point’s rides. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely a recommended place to go if the opportunity presents itself. Thiel’s trip to Cedar Point was a success for Thiel students. Although all the Thielensian staff believed Kennywood was the better park, they all had a great time anyway. Thank you to the Office of Student Activities for the trip to Cedar Point!
