Popular rapper Macklemore is under criticism over pro-Palestinian comments and visuals prior to and during his September 4 and 5 New Jersey performances. Macklemore and Ed Sheeran were on their Loop Tour when prior to two of his performances, Macklemore called for a “free Palestine” as well as accused Israel of committing genocide and continued the show displaying videos and images of the war in Gaza. These comments and displays have resulted in Macklemore being dropped from the tour entirely.

After these comments were made, many others spoke up about it online, but most notable would-be popular singer, P!nk. She had posted to social media regarding this topic and found Macklemore’s words and actions upsetting and called for his removal from the Loop tour.

P!nk’s choice to speak out resulted in much backlash online with fans saying that she is “pro-Israel.” P!nk later clarified on Instagram that her issue was not with Macklemore’s statements but rather his actions past and present.

Within her Instagram post, P!nk said, “I was born a Jew, I didn’t pick it and I’ve never hidden it.” Later within the post she recalled a performance where Macklemore “put on a hooked nose, a black beard, and a bowl cut, performed in it and called it a “random costume” Every Jew I know knew exactly what it was… but he apologized and I let it go, because that’s what we do.”

This entire situation resulted in Macklemore being dropped from the tour as the Gillette Stadium they were set to perform in refused to allow any performance that included Macklemore. The final decision to drop Macklemore came from Ed Sheeran’s producer.
