As midterm break approaches, Thiel College students are preparing to take a break from their academic routines and spend time with family, friends and personal responsibilities. From traveling home to Georgia to visiting grandparents and balancing work, students have different plans for making the most of their time away from campus.
For Camdyn Dickerson, the break means heading home to Georgia to spend time with family and possibly catching up with her best friends. However, what she’s most excited about is seeing her dog and her dad. Hayden McDowell is also looking forward to family time, as his grandparents are planning to come visit. He plans to spend his break enjoying the time with them.
Other students are preparing for a busier schedule. Brianna Whaley plans to divide her time between work and farm responsibilities, describing her plans simply as “a little bit of work, a little bit of farm.” Although her break may not consist entirely of relaxing, the time away from campus allows Whaley to focus on responsibilities outside of her academic schedule. Students who return home often use their time off to catch up on work, help their families, or take care of tasks that are more difficult to manage while attending classes.
Ticey Carr will also be heading home, where she plans to work, visit a friend, and spend time with her grandmother. She is also looking forward to getting Mexican food during the break. These plans mean a lot to her as she’s very close with her grandmother.
Although students have different plans for their time away from Thiel, many are using the break as an opportunity to reconnect with loved ones, take care of responsibilities, and enjoy a change of pace from college life.
Whether spending time with family, catching up with friends, or keeping busy at home, midterm break offers students a chance to step away from classes and return to campus refreshed for the remainder of the semester.
