Nov. 22nd, 2021: Thiel’s Hunter E. Thompson and Austin Parker were named Wrestler of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively by the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC).
Thompson is a sophomore Tomcat from Titusville, Pennsylvania. In his high-school career, Thompson was a District 10 champion and a state medalist for Pennsylvania. He competes in the 133-lb bracket and went undefeated between two events last week. He went 4-0 between a non-conference match against Hiram College on Nov. 17th and the Baldwin Wallace Invitational event on Nov. 20th. Thompson overtook the entire 133-pound bracket at Baldwin Wallace, pinning Rashad Stratton from Delaware Valley and beating Baldwin Wallace’s David Panda and Jaden Hinton.
Parker, a freshman also from Titusville, Pennsylvania, also competed in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational, where he placed seventh in the 141-pound bracket. He lost his first match, then proceeded to go 3-1 in the rest of his matches to ultimately end up 3-2 for the invitational. “I was surprised by the recognition, but this just showed me that the effort I’m putting in is paying off. I haven’t had a lot of success in the sport throughout my life, so I was happy.” Parker offered about receiving Rookie of the Week.
“I think we have a tough lineup, and we’re deep at a lot of weights, too.” Parker said regarding the rest of the season. The wrestling team sits 1-0 overall with no conference matches. Their next match is Dec. 4th in Rochester. New York at Rochester Institute of Technology for the RIT Invitational.
